Archangel and eagle! Stern trump of the Lord!
No seven-domed temple, no Tsar's abode
Shall be for a nest of yours!
No, rather—Red Square, where the people throng!
And—reaching the Lobnoye Mesto-on,
To bring in the—orphaned—young.
The people—beheaded—await a head.
There's gasping for breath in every breast.
Archangel! —Eagle! —Make haste!
No flames riding high, no gathering storm,
No rainbow ablaze in the sky—no one
But Peter inspecting the young.
24 April 1918.
